Under the metaphors of windmill and mushroom, here is what I derived from the point of an environmental engineer.
Just like the gears of a windmill, to fulfill the goal of building an environmental friendly site, all the aspects are interacting with each other, including energy efficiency strategies, water saving systems, sustainable construction materials, and garbage disposal mechanisms. Those aspects should be paid attention to simultaneously, and if in need, to compromise with each other to reach the most environmental friendly goal as a whole.
For the energy and environmental level, our site and Palo Alto together with Stanford are related with each other in three main aspects, including water supply & disposal, energy supply, and ecological uniform (e.g. the consistent and integrated style of plants, the ecological concern for the whole area). Those are the key points that we need to consider and make agreements with the city and the school when developing our masterplan.
Open to your comments, and greetings from Stanford!
